What is Somatic Experiencing?

“Somatic Experiencing helps people build awareness, coherence, and self-regulation. The result is a deeper understanding of the body/mind connection with improved ability to release and regulate emotions. It also helps manage stress, resolve issues related to trauma, heal from and navigate life transitions, relationships, and build resilience.”

Kate Pabst, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner

What to expect in a Somatic Experiencing Session

Somatic Experiencing sessions focus on building awareness and tolerance of your internal sensations. Many people who have experienced trauma often feel uncomfortable in their bodies. That’s why it’s important that we establish safety and containment throughout your session. We often explore sensation, images, behaviours, emotions and meaning making. Somatic Experiencing aims to help your body and mind process the parts of your trauma that are stuck, for whatever reason. Trauma is disruptive and impacts many aspects of life, but Somatic Experiencing is designed to help you get back to a comfortable state of being.
